About Us

Our Wandong History Group was formed in 2012 and has since its formation worked hard to raise the profile of the History Group. The Group has researched and written several books, providing source information for visitors and residents. We hold an extensive collection of source material, including photographs, maps and artefacts. We conduct small and large scale photographic exhibitions, stage an Annual History Month (October) event and conduct commemorative events for ANZAC and Remembrance Days each year. Our activities are conducted in collaboration with various community groups and relies heavily upon assistance from the Wandong Heathcote Junction Community Group Inc.

Having no permanent place of residence our Group was fortunate to be offered the use of St. Michael’s Catholic Church by the Parish Council of Kilmore and following a large scale restoration project funded by a Living Heritage Grant, the church building is now our home. Newly roofed, repaired and conserved to its original design and painted, the building is now complete with an all-ability ramp to assist entry.  A successful grant through the Regional Collections Access Program  has funded new room dividers and exhibition panels on which to display our collection and improve the visitor experience.  Our Group works diligently to equip its activities through fundraising activities and grants and is keen to encourage new volunteers to our Group.
